Biography

Elisabeth Karrels is a freelance artist based in Berlin, Germany. She graduated from The University of South Florida (USF) with a BFA in Dance Performance and a minor in Nutrition. Originally from Port Washington, WI, Karrels was a company member for Warped Dance Company with Maria Hackbarth from 2012-2015, performing at the “InHale Performance Series” in Philadelphia, as well as in “The Delve Showcase” in Chicago. In 2016, she performed in work by Andee Scott at “A Moving Dance Tour of St. Pete” in Florida. In the spring of 2017, Karrels studied abroad with the USF Dance in Paris Semester Program where she worked with world-renowned choreographers of various styles including Julien Desplantez, Wanjiru Kamuyu, Kevin Quinaou, and Jenny Sandler. While attending USF, Karrels has studied under Michael Foley, Bliss Kohlmyer, and John Parks, among others; she recently worked with San Francisco choreographer Robert Moses on an original piece that was performed in USF’s 2017 Fall Dance Concert. Karrels premiered her solo, defined dvesha, in November 2017 at the USF Theatre, and was chosen to perform it again in spring of 2018. ​Her piece Passage of Existence was created around the concept of time, performed by four dancers and premiered in April 2018 at the USF Theatre. Karrels is currently researching and creating a solo work around the idea of vulnerability.
